What is TCA?

TCA (Trichloracetic Acid) is a non-toxic chemical solution that is a relative of vinegar (acetic acid). TCA peels can help to treat pigment problems, discoloration, acne scars and surface wrinkles. TCA peels are normally called medium level peels because they are stronger than glycolic peels but milder than phenol peels. Our 10% TCA peel will visibly peel away rough, flawed skin to reveal a smooth, clear skin texture.

Benefits of 10% TCA Chemical Peel

Lightens Brown Spots, Fades Discoloration, Improves Melasma

TCA peels work wonders at correcting pigmentation problems. The 10% TCA peel will fade brown spots, improve skin discoloration, lighten age spots and vanish melasma.

TCA does not bleach the skin or make it “whiter” but it promotes clarity to reveal a brighter, even-toned complexion. This 10% TCA peel is enhanced with proven skin lightening ingredients Kojic Acid, Bearberry, Mulberry and Licorice. They work simultaneously to fade dark spots and correct hyperpigmentation.

Erases Acne Scars, Pimples, Blackheads

TCA effectively treats mild to severe acne by unclogging pores, purging bacteria and removing cysts and blackheads. As the TCA solution sloughs away the top layer of skin, it will remove the old acne scars, pimples and other bothersome blemishes.

Improves Skin Texture and Repairs Sun Damaged Skin

Over exposure to the sun can cause the skin to look weathered and leathery. If your skin has suffered years of sun damage, a TCA peel is an excellent choice for restoring the skin’s youthful glow. TCA peels will fade discoloration caused by sun damage and refine the skin’s texture so it becomes soft and supple.

Ideal for Face and Full Body Exfoliation

This 10% TCA Gel Peel is ideal for both face and full body exfoliation. The skin on the body is thicker than the skin on the face so sometimes a stronger chemical peel is needed for the body. This peel can be used to exfoliate the arms, legs, back, knees, elbows, face or any area that needs intense resurfacing. Please note that 10% TCA is not recommended for those with ultra-sensitive skin.

Stronger than Glycolic…Ideal for Coarse, Resistant Skin

TCA is generally stronger than glycolic acid which makes it ideal for those with acute skin flaws or coarse, resistant skin. The 10% TCA peel has the ability to penetrate the epidermis and the dermis so it can really get to work on correcting those troublesome skin imperfections. Only strong peels (such as this 10% TCA) can go below the top layer of skin. TCA peels are perfect for those whose skin has not readily responded to other peels.

Treats Shallow Wrinkles, Boosts Collagen, Fights Signs of Aging

TCA has the ability to go beyond the top layer of the skin and this where the real work happens. It helps to stimulates new collagen and elastin to plump the skin and soften the appearance of shallow wrinkles. As TCA resurfaces the skin it also forays the signs of aging and allows the skin to become thicker, tighter and more firm.

Deionized Water, Trichloroacetic Acid, Kojic Acid, Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi (Bearberry) Extract, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Morus Alba (White Mulberry) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract

Can 10% TCA Peel be used on dark skin or African-American Skin?

The answer is YES. This is the most common question that we receive about our TCA peel. Those with darker skin tones or African-American skin can use our 10% TCA Peel. Just be sure to follow the directions carefully. To test for skin sensitivity, conduct a patch test before going through with a full peel. Do not leave the peel on longer than the recommended time as this does not make the peel work any better but it can actually cause burns.

What does a TCA peel feel like? Is it painful?

There is some stinging and a sensation of heat while the 10% TCA peel solution is applied and active on the skin. The sensation subsides as the peel is neutralized and washed off.

Will My Skin Peel?

The 10% TCA will cause visible skin peeling. The first 2-3 days after the peel your skin will look red and feel tight and leathery. You will begin to peel approximately 48-72 hours after the peel. The skin peeling generally lasts 2-5 days. There is no pain while the skin is peeling but your skin will look like you have a severe sunburn.

How long is the Healing time?

The healing time for each person will vary as everyone’s skin is different. Here is a summary of what to expect. If you apply the 10% TCA peel on a Monday, your skin should start peeling on Wednesday or Thursday. The skin will stop peeling 2 to 5 days AFTER THE PEELING STARTED (not 2-5 days after you first applied the peel).

How Do I Apply a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels can be easily applied at home if you follow the directions carefully. The peel comes with a detailed instruction sheet that’s easy to follow. Basically, a chemical peel application involves:

  1. Cleansing the skin
  2. Applying the peel
  3. Let the peel remain on the skin for the recommended time
  4. Rinse with cold water
  5. Wear moisturizer and sunscreen for a few days after the peel

How should I care for my skin after a TCA peel?

After you have conducted your 10% TCA Peel, the general after care guidelines are as follows:

  1. Avoid makeup immediately after the peel or use light makeup only
  2. Avoid exercise or any activities that promote sweating for the next 24-28 hours after the peel

At-Home chemical peels are great but they are not for everyone. Before purchasing this product please be sure to carefully read all the warnings and precautions.

Do NOT Use this Peel if:

  1. You are not willing to read the instructions and fully understand the risks and restrictions associated with the healing process
  2. You have used hair removal products, waxes, scrubs, Retin A, tretinoin products, or other exfoliating agents on the intended treatment area 48 hours prior to the peel
  3. You have sunburn, skin allergies, skin grafts, recent surgery, open wounds, lesions, inflamed skin or very sensitive skin
  4. You are pregnant or nursing
  5. You currently take Accutane (isotretinoin) or have within the past 6 months
  6. You have an STD such as Herpes, HIV, AIDS or similar condition
  7. You are on immune suppressant drugs
  8. Undergoing chemotherapy or radiation
  9. You are prone to keloid scars
  10. If you are susceptible to cold sores, chemical peels may increase the chance of an outbreak. Taking antiviral medicine prior to the peel may decrease the risk of an outbreak
  11. You have unrealistic expectations. Multiple applications may be required to achieve optimum results

Our 10% TCA comes with a detailed instruction booklet. Please ensure that you read it carefully. Leaving on the peel for too long or not following the Warnings & Precautions can result in serious burns. Here are some possible side effects or issues that can occur with TCA Peels:

Burning Sensation: During the application of the 10% TCA peel you may feel a moderate to intense heat. You may use a fan to alleviate this. There is usually no discomfort after the peel solution has been neutralized and washed off, but in case there is mild discomfort you can take a painkiller for relief.

Redness: A pink or red coloration of the skin may persist for 2-8 weeks after a TCA peel.

Wound Healing: The TCA peel causes a superficial wound to the skin that takes approximately 5-7 days to properly heal. Once the surface is treated, it may be tender and sensitive to the sun for approximately 2-8 weeks.

Pigment Changes: The treated area may heal with increased or decreased pigmentation. This occurs most often in darker pigmented skin. The darker or lighter areas usually fade in three to six months, though pigment change can be permanent.

Swelling: Immediately after the TCA peel, there will be mild to moderate swelling of the skin. This is a temporary condition and will resolve over two to three days.

Sun Sensitivity: You will be sensitive to the sun for 6-8 weeks after the treatment and will need to protect your skin daily from the sun with sunscreen, hats and sunglasses.

Accutane: Generally, you should not have a medium depth peel if you have used Accutane in the last 6 months.

Cold Sores: If you are prone to herpes (cold sores, fever blisters), you should take your antiviral prescription medication BEFORE applying the TCA peel. This will lessen or prevent the chance of an outbreak.

  2. Love this product!

This gel peel is amazing! Strong enough to be effective, yet gentle enough as to not irritate my overly sensitive skin. I HAD acne and my skin used to break out a lot. Not anymore. It cleared my face a lot since I started using it. I am ordering my new bottle now! Love the product!

  3. Good Peel....Will Leave on Longer Next Time

Posted by Honora on 13th May 2015

This does exactly what it's supposed to do. The 10% is perfect for beginners. I left it on for about 75 seconds, not much over a minute. I was nervous in the beginning because I didn't want to burn my face. After application and rinsing my face felt immediately tight and after the 3rd day I began to peel. It wasn't major peeling just small flakes. Next time I'll leave it on longer or maybe try a second layer for a stronger peel...very well satisfied.

  4. Don't doubt it just try it!

Posted by Shemika on 13th May 2015

I had doubts about buying skin products but what I have experienced in the past. I have had my skin peeling sessions done at a skin clinic before so I knew what to expect using a TCA acid chemical peel. One thing I gotta admit is that I felt pain on my face (burning feeling) which means it is doing what it's supposed to do. My pores on my nose (they're big) look smaller and my forehead looks smoother. I guess I can say I'm satisfied for now. We'll see how my skin change in the next couple times I use this.

  5. Not as Much Peeling But Skin Looks Good After

Posted by Carla on 13th May 2015

It did not peel as deeply as I had wanted but to be safe I started with the 10% because I was afraid anything higher would burn too much. I got some skin sheding but I had to use the entire bottle to get that. I have thick skin so I need to put 3 coats of the peel. The next 5 days when it was peeling my skin looked terrible but that is expected. After the peeling stops my skin looks very smooth so I cannot complain about it. Maybe I will try a stronger peel next time.
